Celebrating a 50th Wedding Anniversary

Celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary allows you to mark a significant time in you lives and, thus, in the lives of your family and friends. There are a variety of ways to celebrate, some might include:
  • Take the time to reminisce with each other, friends and family about "Memories, "Good Times," "What I've Learned Through the Years."
  • Take out photographs of your wedding, honeymoon, early years, special events, etc.
  • Plan a second honeymoon. If travel is not possible, collect information about the location and dream.
  • Plan a special meal together.
  • Use the following prayer service as a couple, alone or with family and friends.
Prayer Service

Couple: Blessed by God who has blessed us in so many ways. Blessed be God now and forever.

All: Blessed be God forever.

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, love is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things. Love never fails. ♥ The Word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

If the couple is alone, they may pray the following:
Loving and gracious God, over and over again you show us that you are a God of love. At all times, you are friend and companion to us. Your joy is ever with us. In your generosity you invite us to partake in the banquet of life, to dance, to laugh, to eat the best foods, and to celebrate your spirit and kindness. You are present with us as we celebrate our wedding anniversary. You bless us in our day-to-day living. You fill us with love for one another. We are grateful to our God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen

If others are present, someone may pray the following for the couple:
God, our Father, you created man and woman to love each other in the bond of marriage. Bless and strengthen N. and N. They have known the gift of a good and happy marriage. They enjoy the affection of their family and continually praise you for your goodness. Their lives have been rich, full of good works and friendship. During these mature years of their marriage, bless them with health and enable them to provide for all their needs. May they enjoy many more years of each other's companionship and may they know the fullness of your love for them. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
