Suggestions for Parishes to promote marriages or support couples
  • Put the following websites in the parish bulleting so that couples can see these programs are available to help them:

    For supporting good marriages and help them be better:

    For hurting marriages to help them see the possibility of reconciliation and healing in their marriage relationship.
  • Print the weekly reading in the parish bulletin and encourage couples and families to read them together, share and pray.
  • Encourage couples in your parish to go out on a weekly or bimonthly date night. If money is tight, a drive to a corner coffee or ice cream shop or watching the stars together from the backyard. The important thing is spending time alone with each other, focused on the relationship.
  • Respect couple/family time by limiting parish ministry demands on their time. The couple needs to have time to build their intimate relationship and they need time to build relationships as a family.
  • Recognize couples: couple of the month, anniversaries, etc.
  • Homilies on marriage, real family life, Theology of the Body, Marriage Encounter
  • Prayer support: groups, mentor couples, bible study, faith sharing, Cursillo, hotline for couples, etc., retreats.
  • Enrichment opportunities: for newly married, coping, World Marriage Day, Supper and Substance, single parent, pre-school parents, according to age, speakers, videos.
  • Service: visiting sick and elderly couples.
